What happens in your first session?

Booking the session is the biggest step. You've probably been thinking about it for a while, most people have. If you're reading this having just booked, or nearly booked: well done you. That's the hard part done. Everything after it is just turning up.

Before we meet

The intake form

Before your first session you'll fill out a new client intake form. It arrives with your booking confirmation email, so keep an eye out for it. It gives me the specific details of your needs, wants and requests for what we cover in the sessions. No guessing.

If you have a practitioner you're currently seeing for treatment (a chiropractor, an osteopath, a neurologist) and you'd like me to connect with them, the form is where you give me their contact details. Your medical team leads on your health. My job is to build on it. You'll need to connect us directly though. They have to have your permission before they can share your medical details with me. It makes sense for your practitioners to have an open channel of communication with me, so we're not doubling up on treatment and we each understand what the other is doing. That's how you get properly joined-up care.

On the day

The first session itself

We start with some brief assessments. They simply and succinctly tell me where your body is holding tension and where it needs the most support right now, and whether we need to start at your core or elsewhere.

Then we look at your breath mechanics. How you're breathing. Whether you're breathing. Whether your body is holding unnecessary tension that's getting in the way of a complete, full breath. From there I'll teach you how to manage something called intra-abdominal pressure, IAP for short. I'll teach you to feel in your body what I'm seeing, so you understand it in your head and in your body. Sometimes that's harder than it sounds.

So it's never movement just for movement's sake. I'm all here for a great workout, and all movement is good. But at the start we need a clear understanding of the lay of the land, so we can measure your results and understand how to move forwards. Specific goals like dropped arches, disc bulge rehab, rotator cuff rehab, postnatal care and bunion support need specific strategies. That's the gap I'm here to fill: the specific strategies that move you forwards most efficiently.

Once we've done all that, we reassess. I want to see that the work has moved you measurably closer to the results you came for.

Afterwards

Your five-minute homework

You'll get a short follow-up video, about five minutes, outlining your findings and how we start building on healthy movement patterns and biomechanics going forwards.

The way I teach

The sessions are guided by you

I am not here to tell you what to do. "Get down and give me twenty" is thoroughly not my vibe. The first session is assessment and gentle teaching, not a workout. Each session is a chance for me to meet you where you're at.

FAQs

Questions new clients ask

Do I need any equipment?

No. I bring what we need to your home. A patch of floor and a quiet hour is plenty.

I'm under a consultant or physio. Can we work together?

Yes. The intake form covers it. With your permission we stay in touch so your care stays joined-up.
